Environmental Intern

Loureiro Engineering Associates is seeking an Environmental Intern to join our Environmental team. This internship provides hands-on experience supporting environmental assessment, investigation, remediation, compliance, and engineering projects. Interns will work alongside experienced environmental scientists, geologists, and engineers on real project deliverables involving fieldwork, technical analysis, regulatory research, and project documentation.

Depending on the intern’s academic background, interests, and assigned projects, this position may have a greater emphasis on environmental site assessment and investigation or environmental engineering and remediation systems.

This is a paid internship.

This opportunity is ideal for students looking to apply their environmental science, geology, or engineering coursework to practical challenges in the field and office.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist with environmental field investigations and sampling programs involving soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, indoor air, and soil vapor.

  • Support Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and related environmental due diligence activities.

  • Assist with the advancement and documentation of soil borings and installation of groundwater monitoring wells.

  • Collect water-level measurements and assist with elevation surveying, aquifer testing, soil boring logs, and monitoring well construction diagrams.

  • Support remediation projects, including the operation, monitoring, maintenance, and performance evaluation of remediation and mitigation systems.

  • Perform engineering calculations and technical analyses, as applicable, to support the design, operation, monitoring, and maintenance of environmental systems.

  • Review, tabulate, analyze, and interpret environmental and operational data.

  • Prepare tables, figures, drawings, and other technical documentation.

  • Conduct project-related research, including reviews of historical records and applicable federal, state, and local environmental requirements.

  • Assist with environmental permitting and licensing, including research regarding regulatory requirements.

  • Review environmental, health, and safety regulations to support client compliance needs.

  • Assist with the preparation of technical reports, work plans, correspondence, permit applications, and other project deliverables.

  • Prepare or assist with drawings for designs or technical concepts developed by the intern, as appropriate.

  • Learn and follow company standard operating procedures, quality requirements, and health and safety practices.

  • Assist with proposal development, including estimating the time and expenses required to complete proposed work, as needed.

  • Perform assigned work safely and consistently with company policies and procedures.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What You Bring

  • Currently enrolled as a Junior, Senior, or Graduate student pursuing a degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific or engineering discipline.

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

  • Foundational knowledge of environmental science, geology, hydrogeology, chemistry, or environmental engineering principles relevant to the candidate’s area of study.

  • Strong computer and technical documentation skills.

  • A 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification is a plus.

  • Prior environmental consulting, fieldwork, laboratory, research, design, or internship experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and hike for prolonged periods.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

  • Manual dexterity necessary to operate field tools, sampling devices, and related equipment.

  • Ability to perform work outdoors in varying weather, environmental, and terrain conditions.

  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.

  • Ability to follow established health and safety procedures.

    Compensation: $25/hr-$27/hr
