Senior Civil Engineer

Building and Land Engineering - Plainville, CT - Full Time

Loureiro Engineering is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to join our Building and Land Engineering team. This role will be responsible for designing and developing innovative civil engineering solutions, conducting feasibility studies, preparing design plans and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements while collaborating closely with project teams and clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform code research and determine how design standards and guidelines apply to the design of specific projects.
  • Perform engineering calculations and apply computer programs to various engineering functions, including spreadsheets and design-related software platforms such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, HydroCAD, and StormCAD.
  • Obtain critical design data from survey and engineering drawings and maps.
  • Perform stormwater runoff calculations in accordance with established standards.
  • Prepare civil engineering design drawings and specifications for public and private sector clients including site layouts, utility layouts, grading and drainage, and sedimentation and erosion control.
  • Compile data to support the preparation of engineering reports.
  • Prepare design details based on project-specific needs, design standards and guidelines.
  • Review proposed materials and products during the construction phase. Respond to requests for information (RFIs) and submittals.
  • Provide visual observations/documentation of work in progress during the construction phase.
  • Provides solutions and ideas regarding technical, regulatory, or site-specific obstacles.  
  • Prepares reports, opinions and recommendations for the approval of the Project Manager or Project Engineer concerning the direction of the project.
  • Acts as a technical advisor to junior professional staff assigned to the project.
  • May be assigned “small” projects to gain experience in project management.
  • Performs other work as apparent or assigned.
  • Works safely and abides by the firm’s policies and procedures.

  • Owns and drives projects to closure.

Knowledge and Experience
  • Must have a bachelors degree in civil engineering.
  • At least 4 years of experience since graduation.
  • Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) is a plus
  • Alternatively, any equivalent combination of education at the Masters or Doctoral level and experience.

Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, walking, hiking, and standing.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. at a time.
  • Mobility control of hands to setup equipment, handle samples, and operate tools.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and terrains.
  • Adherence to safety protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment.
